Greetings. If you've stumbled across this forum, welcome. Because this is a brand new board, let me introduce myself. I'm The Administrator. I go by other nicks here and there, but that's who I am here. It's my board, after all. I have a real passion for audio. Always have. I've recently discovered Emotiva, and have purchased a couple of their products. I own their LPA-1, and I briefly owned the LMC-1. I love my LPA-1, but returned the LMC-1 due to the software quirks. I spend a lot of time browsing internet audio forums, trying to make friends, hoping to avoid enemies, but generally to learn about decent home audio. As of this writing, Emotiva does not have their own forum and so the discussions of their products end up scattered to the internet wind. My hope is that this can become the unofficial home for Emotiva Audio discussions. At the moment, my home theater consists of a Pioneer Elite VSX-43TX AVR acting as a pre-processor, an Emotiva LPA-1 providing the juice, Axiom M80 mains, an Axiom VP150 center, Axiom M22's as surrounds, and a SVS-PCi+ 20-39 subwoofer. A Denon 1920 DVD/SACD/CD player and a Dish Network DVR round out the entertainment end. I also have a Belkin PureAV PF60 providing 'clean' power to the whole rack. While I'm a part of dozens of online forums, this is the first one I've ever started on my own. Let's see where it goes....

Congrats on the successful launch of this "un-offical" Emotiva forum...from reading the boards at Axiom, AVS and AV123, it certainly is needed!! I too have Just discovered the wonderful world of Emotiva (<than a week)! My first phone call for info was answered by Dan...immediately!! I've since spoken to Cathy and Lonnie and have decided to upgrade my cheap, 4-year old Sony AVR to their UT separate series...Soon!!! Lately, I've been asking a lot of questions and learning much about HT and the new audio multi-channel formats (audiophile from late 70's, early 80's..."Dolby" had just been born)! Anyway, looking at a complete Axiom Epic 80 5.2 audio setup, combined with the Emotiva UT as a front end! I somewhat understand the problems\quirks of the G2-LMC-1, but know I'll upgrade to a LMC-2 as soon as available!! ;D So.....Any help, suggestions or advise will Always be Appreciated! Happy to become a part of this New Place! Ted

Theophile, welcome! Hopefully this place will gather enough users to make it a worthwhile forum. Perhaps Emotiva will respond to my emails and put in their $.02 as well. I'd love for this to become a 'real' hangout, but for the moment we're just going to have to hang in there and see what happens over the next few weeks. Anyway, thanks for stopping by and introducing yourself, even if we're the only ones here for right now .

Hi everyone! I like the idea of having an Emotiva forum we can refer to for user opinions and suggestions. I'm a new user..purchased an LPA-1 to power my Infinity Beta 50 speakers and the rest of my 7.2 surround system. The extra .1 is my older Velodyne CHT-12 sub I now have as a rear subwoofer. The other equipment I use is an Infinity C360 for center channel and 2 Infinity C250's for back surrounds. I still currently own and use ( for surrounds) a pair of original DCM Time Window speakers that still sound as good as the day I brought them home, although the cabinets and grills show their 25 or so years of wear. My new LPA-1 drives them much better than my Pioneer VSX815 receiver (now my Pre/Pro) as they are 6 ohm speakers and not terribly effecient. My subwoofer is an SVS PB12NSD. I have a Pioneer DV-563A DVD player used for SACD and DVDA playback and a Samsung HD960 upconverting DVD player. Video is dispayed on a Sony 46" XBR2.
My audio experience dates back to the mid 70's and mid 80's for 10 years as a "HiFi" (as us snobs back then called it) salesperson here in good old Connecticut. I'm guessing that we won't see many from CT here but you never know. Back then our company had quite a mix of products to choose from Audio Research, Keff, Magnaplanar, B&K, Crown, Tascam, Mark Levinson, DB Systems, EPI, JBL, Infinity,Quad, Luxman, B&W, Phase Linear, Ess/Heil, all the way down to Pioneer Electronics small $300.00 systems but NO car stereo. We were the largest EPI speaker retailer in the country and even had a mention in one of their product brochures back then. George Samuels and Win Burhoe were friends with our owner and spent a lot of time with us in our stores.
This was an exciting time when we were encouraged to borrow equipment to take home and spend extended time listening and getting to know many of the cutting edge products of the day. Mark Levinson spent many hours with us after our store had closed at night with his prototype electronics doing extensive listening evaluations on our Magnaplanar and B&W speakers. A guy by the name of David Hadaway custom built us a very simple preamp using a battery for power. Built in a small aluminum box it only had 2 level controls, a phono preamp and an input switch. The sound was just amazing at the time.
Times have changed...to say the least! Back then there was no such term as "surround sound", subwoofers barely existed and , most were custom built and all externally powered. The first one I ever heard was built in our warehouse by our fanatical professional audio division using 24" Hartley woofers and a monster transmission line enclosure. We moved them with a fork lift and powered them with mono bridged Crown DC 300A amps. The first commercially built sub I heard was from a company called Dahlquist and was made to enhance their DQ10 loudspeaker.
I currently own a modest collection ( 2000 to 3000) of.......records....black vinyl...12" and 7". My music tastes are rooted mostly in what is ( or was) classified as "progressive" rock, many English bands-Moody Blues(we're still big fans!), Genesis, Strawbs, Yes, Pink Floyd, Caravan, Steve Hillage and BeBop Deluxe. I also enjoy some of the more progressive American rock such as Todd Rundgren, Ambrosia and commercial music such as the Beach Boys and Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty -( from which my "Luna" moniker has been derived) and some obscure music from a guy named Jimmie Spheeris. I still own a turntable but have not played a record in over 15 years. As money permits, I am building a collection of CD versions of all my favorite "classic rock" stuff, the most recent of which are the 5 Genesis SACD's that were released recently. It's nice to see that a lot of the older obscure vinyl in my collection is getting released on CD as time goes on as I find very little new music to my liking. My wife says I'm "stuck in the 70's"...so be it!
Enough reminiscing/rambling for now...Hopefully this forum will get all kinds of people to contribute so we all can benefit from a wide range of experiences with Emotiva gear !

Not sure why the above text is so small...maybe the moderator can fix it...or was I just too wordy?

Teeny text is because it's all a quote. It looks like you quoted your previous post from above, or am I missing something? Did you perhaps mean to modify your post and accidentally clicked 'quote'? I *think* you can delete it if you want, but otherwise I can remove the post. /Tear: my first job as an admin. Not sure why the above text is so small...maybe the moderator can fix it...or was I just too wordy?

I guess I just have too much time on my hands..kept adding to it.

Hi all and thanks for setting up this forum. I am the proud owner of The Emo "Big Dogs" and can honestly say that when unleashed this pair of bad boys are just incredible, the sound is to die for in all aspects. Soundstage...super wide, great depth and good height. Imaging.........with well recorded discs...simply stunning Detail.............incredible Highs and mids are smooth and natural Bass...omg, so well controlled, very tight, punchy and excellent extention
I also have to compliment my Axiom m80v2 mains which are absolutely outstanding speakers regardless of how inexpensive they are to comparable speakers...a bargain.
Also, the Paradigm PW2200 sub is another very under rated unit which performs miracles in music which is so important to me, i hate flubby, wobbly, bloated boomy bass....this sub with the Emos sounds wicked, you should here the kick drum slam this baby and those looooow bass lines are sooo sweet.
My center, the Klipsch Rc64, a 70lb beast that is incredible for movies and concerts alike, although i got rid of my RF83 mains, I believe Klipsch make some of the finest centers available( in the same price range)
Look forward to talking to you all
Chris

Welcome aboard, jetjocket! I too, am a big Axiom fan and thoroughly enjoy the Axiom boards. That board was my inspiration for setting this up. Nice to see another Axiom lover has arrived! Owning the MPS-1 and Axiom M80's, have you had any shutdown problems? There is a guy over on the Axiom boards, sirquack, that had quite a few problems with his MPS-1 driving M80's. He could not push them past about 100db without the MPS shutting down and ended up returning it. I'm happy to hear that you seem to not be experiencing the same problems.

I have had no problems with shutdowns at all. I can make it shutdown if i crank the living daylights out of it but at those volumes its actually painfull. What i love about the MPS1 is its ability to play so loud yet clear and remain very very musical, it really is a magical experience, combined with the 80's i really am in music nirvana.
